I, like most, was heavily influenced by Micheal Jordan growing up. I used to watch all of his old film, read his books, rock his shoes and play ball with my tongue out. MJ, just being himself, inspired so many people to strive for more in their own lives.

The inspiration behind this piece came from his influence on my life, and from his story. This piece talks about Jordan’s struggles, work ethic, accomplishments and legacy. The coolest thing about his story is the fact he was cut from his high school team. This piece prompts you to look at your whole story, not just the current situation you’re in. If he would’ve quit after he got cut, he wouldn’t have ever come face to face with the man he is today.

I feel like a lot of times in our own lives, we fail, and then we quit. Someone tells us we can’t do something, so we quit. We get a little pushback and life gets hard, so we quit. This piece showcases the end result of not quitting. When you see that shoe, you don’t just think of a shoe. You think of the legacy that Micheal created. You think about the greatest basketball player of all time. You think about all the children he inspired to work hard and chase their dreams. You think of the possibilities. You feel hopeful. You are inspired.

That is the type of legacy I look to leave.
